It was supposed to be a day of friends, fun and football—Super Bowl Sunday. Instead it was the beginning of a death-defying, downward spiral. Laura Alden Kamm, happily married, mother of two toddlers, and studying to be an architect woke up that morning with a mind-searing pain. Eleven days later she was totally blind. In an ambulance going from one hospital to another she took what was thought to be her final breath.
